If you are catching on to our reviews of the places we are staying and experiencing, Secrets seems to be an unfair exposure from Only Vacations, and that’s not by accident. Sure there have been changes with the Hyatt take over and their time share is relentless, but they do offer a solid product and we have been waiting for this one!! We get a lot of “which is better” Secrets Akumal or Secrets Maroma… and now we the answer, it’s just different!!
We stayed in Ocean view Preferred club which had the better room location, beach concierge, extra restaurant and lounge… Worth the price, up to you!! The room was big enough, well appointed and comfortable. We didn’t see the other rooms but they did have some ocean front master quotes that would be a nice little view!!
The Beach… powder white sand, love it. We did get a little wind for part of the stay which took away some of the colours of the ocean and made the water a little rough but still manageable but we also saw her show off her colours!! You get about 2 km of beach north and south with a couple resorts and then un disturbed areas if you go for a walk, so you will find trash… and also realize the Secrets has the best part of the beach. The staff were great, attentive and helpful. They even had some sunscreen on the preferred concierge if needed and bottles of water which are always helpful.
The food was good, as expected, with great service. There was food around the pool throughout the day, and you can order to the beach. We did find the Oceanena at lunch and had some smashing shrimp tacos!! The reservation free system is our preference, and it does take a little bit to get a table at the peak of dinner time… Grab a drink and relax!
The feel of the property was right up our alley and the biggest difference in Maroma and Akumal. They had the entertainment team out, volleyball, soccer, elimination tournament, music a little more prevalent and overall more upbeat. The theater was under construction along with the disco… Which we don’t often make either anyway.
In conclusion, this property has jumped to the top of my resorts to come back to! It would be great for friends, groups and the romantic traveler.
